Cosmetic Dentistry

Enjoy a smile that boosts self-esteem, and enhances your personal, social and business relationships. Cosmetic dentistry addresses discoloration, misalignment, wear, chips, receding gums and unattractive fillings and dental teeth whitening. Porcelain is now used to form tooth colored fillings, crowns and veneers without the use of unsightly metal. Spruce up your smile, enhance your good looks and speak with confidence every day.

Porcelain Veneers

Ultra-thin pieces of tooth colored porcelain are sculpted to fit over the front of your teeth. They are bonded in place to treat gaps, chipped, misaligned, and discolored teeth. Veneers can be used to treat single
or multiple teeth.

Tooth Colored Fillings

Goodbye silver amalgam fillings! Cosmetic dentistry uses tooth colored materials—called composite resins. These esthetic, yet tough restorations are bonded to your teeth and even make the remaining tooth structure stronger. The fillings can be carefully colored to match your existing teeth making them “invisible.”

Implant Dentistry

Dental implants are devices designed to replace missing teeth. The best dental implants are cylindrical units shaped like a screw made of titanium alloy—the same material used to fabricate artificial joints used in orthopedics. Implants can be placed in the jawbone to substitute for missing roots of the teeth. After placement, the implant heals within the jawbone in 4 to 6 months. During this time, the bone cells grow around and adapt closely to the implant allowing it to become integrated within the jawbone. Once integrated, the implants serve as an anchor for the replacement teeth that are attached to it.

Dental implants can be used to replace either front or back teeth. They can anchor one tooth or multiple teeth. They may also be employed to anchor full dentures, making them less mobile, more comfortable and secure. The ideal candidate for implant dentistry is in sound general health, has good oral hygiene and adequate bone in the areas of the jaw where the implants should be placed. The quantity and quality of the jawbone is assessed by using panoramic radiographs and computer assisted tomographs (CAT scans). If there’s a lack of bone to support the implant a bone graft can often be done to correct the deficiency.

Different forms of dental implants have been around for years. The newer “root form” implants have exhibited the greatest predictability and success. These implants can have a success rate greater than 90% and can last many years, possibly a lifetime.

Dental implants are usually an alternative to the traditional removable partial denture and is a solution which provides the comfort and appearance of natural teeth. When a single tooth is missing and the teeth adjacent to the space are sound, the placement of a single implant prevents the need for cutting down the adjacent teeth to place a traditional cemented bridge.

Couple with Tooth Colored Fillings

Tooth Colored Fillings

Malverne Dental Care uses composite material for the majority of our fillings. In past years, silver colored fillings called amalgam were placed in teeth to restore cavities. They contained a mixture of metals which reacted with liquid mercury to form a solid mass. Fillings with mercury have motivated a lot of concern about negative health effects recently.

Composite tooth colored versions are now popular and eliminate these worries. When we’re done, it’s hard to tell the difference between the filling and your tooth. They’re also bonded to the tooth and restore much of its original strength.

Crowns

A crown or cap is needed when most of a tooth is damaged. The remaining structure is prepared and an impression taken. A lab will fabricate a porcelain covering or “cap” to replace the damaged tooth. The porcelain is custom built to mimic the properties of your natural teeth.

Bridges

A bridge replaces a missing tooth or multiple teeth. The teeth or implants on either side of the space are covered with a “cap” or crown and a false tooth is suspended between them. An implant may be used as an alternative to a bridge. If an implant is feasible, the teeth on either side of the space need no preparation and are left untouched.

Teeth Whitening

Over time, your teeth can go from white to “less than white.” Dental teeth whitening might be the answer. Ask us if you’re a good candidate for a brilliant smile.
